Its Mission
Our mission is to provide interdisciplinary networking opportunities for Japan Society for the Promotion of Science program and fellowship alumni that range across science, technology, and the humanities. We achieve this mission through a variety of means – organizing forums and seminars in partnership with the US JSPS Washington Office, collaborating on research, and producing newsletters.
Hundreds of JSPS fellows have returned home and the US and Canada JSPS Alumni Association stands eager to welcome you back. Also, many researchers from other countries are now in the US and Canada after their tenure in Japan. All are invited to join the US-Canada JSPS Alumni Association.
Its History
The US JSPS Alumni Association launched in Spring 2004 at the “Junbi-Iinkai” meeting in Washington, D.C. At that event, over 30 JSPS fellows volunteered to establish an alumni association. (Click here to read about the Alumni Association launch.)
In August 2020 the Alumni Association officially welcomed JSPS fellows from Canada with the association renamed to reflect its enlarged membership: US and Canada JSPS Alumni Association. This action was implemented because many Canadian researchers hadalready joined the Alumni Association and we wanted to clearly show that we are accepting members from Canada.
As of September 2021, there are over 700 members across the US and Canada.
