The JSPS Washington Office is pleased to announce a specialized application pathway to the Pre/Postdoctoral Short-Term Fellowship. This pathway is open to all AA members. It aims to extend and expand the researchers’ network developed between AA members and the researchers in Japan, increase the benefit of AA membership, and encourage more former fellows to join the AA. The period of this Fellowship can range from 1 to 12 (full) months.
The JSPS Washington Office has several nomination slots for the Short-term fellowship as one of several “overseas nominating authorities.” Candidates may also apply for via open recruitment for fellowships by JSPS headquarters. However, they have more potential to be selected through this opportunity. If you know good candidates who are eligible and have strong interest in studying in Japan, please share this announcement with them. One member can recommend one person.
An applicant must be a regular member of the US-Canada JSPS Alumni Association or be recommended by a regular member of the Alumni Association.

- Letter of Recommendation to JSPS Washington Office (FY2023 Letter of Recommendation form) written by you (This form can be downloaded from the link below). (In cases where you are the candidate’s supervisor, you do not need an additional recommendation letter.)
- Materials listed in Application Guidelines No. 9 (Please read the application guidelines carefully; see the application instructions document below.)
Fields of Research:
All fields of the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences are included under this program. Please note that JSPS does not support any research project related to military affairs.

Fellows must start their fellowship in Japan during the period of 1 April 2023– 31 March 2024.
